Forecast

The thematic concept with forecast brief was situated in contexts of human & nature relationship with theology. Charles Taylor mentioned the reason for the chaotic order of the world after disenchantment, “Modern freedom was won by our breaking loose from older moral horizons. People used to see themselves as part of a larger order. In some cases, this was a cosmic order, a “great chain of Being,” in which humans figured in their proper place along with angels, heavenly bodies, and our fellow earthly creatures. This hierarchical order in the universe was reflected in the hierarchies of human society. People were often locked into a given place, a role and station that was properly theirs and from which it was almost unthinkable to deviate. Modern freedom came about through the discrediting of such orders” (Taylor, 1997, P9). In the ancient enchantment world, shamanism and wizard or religious activities always gather people together with moral restraint and universal values, people reverence to nature, and we have seen ourselves as part of nature. The moral restraint and value brought by religion and theology seem less important in the modern world, they are replaced by efficiency and technology, this disenchantment modern world is the root of chaotic order and climate crisis.

This project focuses on issues with climate and extreme weather brought by disenchantment and communicating with audience in a theology way is the main purpose of the project. My idea of weather forecasting is through a shamanic weather controlling to warning people in modern life about future climate crisis. The main platform is a drum which operates as a bridge between human and nature, beating the drum in shamanism is related to ceremonies and celebrations to call spirits and help people directly connect to the spiritual world, controlling the weather is always one of the main duties as a shaman, there are different ways of weather-controlling around the world, but they have similarities which are based on the principle of homeopathic or imitative magic, such as simulating thunder by knock an object (James George Frazer, 1966), I used a traditional or ancient way of weather control to warning audiences by knock drum in and make them aware the future, it could be seen as a forecast of the future climate crisis.

The way of audience experience is based on an interactive projection mapping drum, which allows audiences to engage in aural, visual and kinaesthetic ways, which are impactful compare with a single sensual engagement, the message of the future climate crisis will be delivered throughout an interactive process, which mainly based on the action of knock drum to simulate thunder and dynamic visual information shown, including symbols on the drum with lightening and rain drops surrounded, symbols are reflections of real-world and city which based on the study of different shamanic diagrams and worldview, it will show how human activity affects world and nature and how future climate disaster change the world, audiences can see all these happening in a “God's perspective”, which allow them to aware how a simple action has a huge impact to the world and nature.
